Yantai green tea's application as a national geographical indication protection product recently passed the review of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), making it the ninth national geographical indication protection product in the city.

　　A warm temperate monsoon climate makes Yantai an ideal place in Shandong to plant quality green tea.Yantai green tea features abright green color, thick leaves and a dense aroma.

　　According to a test performed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Yantai green tea enjoys equal quality with teas from Southern China in regards to amino acid, tea polyphenol, caffeine and chlorophyll levels, which are key indicators of quality for green tea.

　　According to the Yantai bureau of quality and technical supervision, other national geographical indication protection products in the city include "Yantai apple", "Longkou fensi (vermicelli made from bean starch)", and "YantaI cherry".
