Kalis is a post 1990s from Indonesia. She was born in a common family in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. As the youngest kid of the family, her parents love her deeply. She has been lived in China for four years, but for those who do not know about her she appears to be an "arrogant" beauty while her friends say she is warm-hearted, easy going and loves to make friends.

Currently, Kalis studies in Jinan University. At very early age, she was curious about China, especially the Chinese language, Confucius and traditional Chinese culture, which are reasons she chose China for her study. Jinan is a famous historical and cultural city, implied with profound cultural deposits hence generates a unique charm and attraction. Family tradition, as a key part of traditional Chinese culture, plays an important role in people’s daily life. People in Jinan feature excellent family traditions including harmony, honesty and integrity, which have given Kalis a deep impression.

As for the family tradition in her country, Kalis said, young people in Indonesia today seem to neglect the inherence of family traditions. Parents only ask their children to learn some virtues and morality instead of requiring them to inherit their family tradition intentionally. “But my parents always ask me to respect the old people, and take care of my grandparents.” Kalis said. Indonesia attaches great importance to etiquette and manners. Young people show great respect to the elderly. “If we do not respect the elderly when we are young, then when we grow old, others will do the same to us.” She added. Every holiday or big events occur, Kalis’s family members will get together no matter where they are to talk about their daily life and enjoy the happiness of family union.

Kalis hopes the good family traditions can be passed down though time has changed. She says when she has a baby, she will tell him her family tradition and ask him to pass it down generation after generation.(sdchina.com)
