The Chinese Cultural Heritage Day this year falls on June 13, the second Saturday of June. Shandong province holds a main celebration of the day in Shandong Jianzhu University, meanwhile a series of festive events are carried out throughout the province.

Shandong is one of the most important birthplaces of Chinese civilization. It features a long history and an abundant cultural resource. More than 50,000 immovable cultural relics have been registered and listed during the third provincial cultural relics census, among which four are world cultural heritages and 196 are key national cultural relics protection units.

In recent years, Shandong province implements the “seven zones and two belts” cultural heritage protection and key project-driven strategy. Last year, Shandong proposed four major measures to make the cultural relics alive through protection and utilization, and has achieved great breakthroughs in many areas. The 88 key provincial cultural relics protection projects are comprehensively promoted; the “rural memory” project opens a new situation of rural cultural heritage protection; the protection of cultural relics in Qufu area and Grand Canal world heritage, as well as the construction of national archaeological park highlight all the projects of national cultural relics protection.
