A change is happening in the way that many Chinese read. Instead of going to traditional book stores and libraries, many book-lovers are now going online. As the world celebrates World Book Day on Thursday, CCTV's reporter Wu Guoxiu talks to some of China's online book sellers to see who is buying books, and what people are reading.

The digital era allows people to do the things they love -- any time, any where. And things are no different when it comes to reading.

A survey says nearly 60 percent Chinese still read using paper-based media, many going online to purchase them.

One of China's largest online book sellers says it sold over 120 million paper books last year, or around eight per customer.

The sellers' data shows that economy and management books have always been popular. But people's trends are changing, and they now like to read books that are clear and pragmatical, rather than theoretical.

But while consumption of traditional media types in China remains strong, the growth in digital reading is rising fast. A national poll says 58 percent of Chinese consumed media digitally in 2014, an 8 percent increase year on year.

An online reading platform provider in Shanghai says that digital content tends to be fragmented and designed for fast consumption. They predicted that readers will demand deeper content.

And it seems that other sellers' predictions are similar at this point.
