Tourism injects Shangjiushan village with new vigor

  The interview team of "Hometown of Confucius, Shandong China" Coverage Activity of National Famous Historical and Cultural Cities arrived at Shangjiushan Village, Zoucheng city, where the simple folk custom, enthusiastic villagers and unique stone houses impressed the reporters greatly and longevous old people can be seen everywhere.

  Shangjiushan Village has a history of 2,000 years. It is an ancient village closely linked with stones. The village is located on stone mountains; people there live in stone houses surrounded by stone walls, and the roads there are paved with stones as well.

  Early this year, Shandong province officially launched the "rural memory project" to protect tangible cultural heritage including historical blocks and traditional dwellings and courtyards as well as intangible cultural heritage such as fork customs. After rounds of selection, Shangjiushan village was chosen as one of the first batch of experimental units, which injects new vigor to its development.

  Recently, Shangjiushan village was inscribed into the list of the third batch of famous historical and cultural towns and village, the first provincial famous historical and cultural village in Zoucheng.

  The tourist development project of Shangjiushan village has been started this year with a total investment of 360 million yuan, aiming at maintaining nostalgia and exhibiting the fork culture influenced by Confucius and Mencius thinking, as well as embodying the achievements made in the construction of beautiful village and ecological civilization.

  The tourist development project covers a planning area of more than 6,000 mu with a total construction period of three years. The restoration and protection of ancient courtyards, as well as the construction of rose garden and its auxiliary facilities will be finished by the end of 2014.

  The local authorities strive to build Shangjiushan village as a comprehensive tourism base integrating folk custom display, cultural exhibition, film and television shooting as well as relaxation and sightseeing in three years.
