The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was marked in Shandong on June 26. Shandong will double its efforts to crack down on drug crimes to ensure a better environment for local residents, according to a press conference of the Information Office of Shandong Provincial People's Government held on the day.
In recent years, the number of drug takers has been on sharp rise and the age of drug takers tends to be lower. Police in Shandong have cracked over 4000 drug abuse and illicit trafficking cases and have seized around 6000 criminals in 2013, a marked increase compared with that in 2012. The government carried out various anti-drug promotion activities in 2013. Meanwhile, the government has expanded mandatory detoxification and voluntary community-based drug treatment efforts.
