The ocean worship ceremony in Qingdao, north China's Shongdong province has a history of over 500 years, and it is the largest ocean worship activity in north China. In the second half of March, fishermen will place altar in front of the Dragon King Temple before sunrise. On the altar, there are animal sacrifices, steamed buns, cakes, fruits, liquor, candies, peanuts and other food. As the ceremony begins, fireworks are set off and people burn incense paper. Along with the sound of fireworks, ship owners throw candies to the sky and other people scramble for the candies, because more candies mean more good luck.
