Culture is the tie for communication, the fertile land for cooperation and the foundation for mutual trust. As the hometown of Confucius and the cradle of the Confucianism thinking, Shandong has its special understanding and inheritance with respect to Confucian thinking and Chinese culture, which enables Shandong to receive more confirmation and esteem in international communication.

From July 17 to July 27, Sun Shougang, member of the Standing Committee and Chief of the Publicity Department of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee headed a cultural communication delegation from Shandong Province to launch friendly visits in the United Arab Emirates, India and Malaysia.

During the visiting period, the delegation built up extensive contacts with the people in the local political, cultural and business circles as well as leaders of the Chinese associations. Moreover, the delegation initiated deep exploration and communications with respect to cooperation in press and publication, culture tourism, economics and trade.

On July 18, the Cultural Communication Delegation of Shandong Province launched a meeting concerning “Qilu Culture Going Abroad” with the cultural institutions in the UAE such as the UAE Shandong Commercial Society. When hearing that Openings magazine was published in Chinese and English to introduce Shandong and China to the world and the magazines were distributed in more than 60 countries and regions, the UAE Shandong Commercial Society proposed that it would like to launch cooperation with Openings magazine to publish a Middle East version of Openings magazine, which would promote Shandong’s communication and cooperation with the Middle East countries in the fields of culture, economy and trade. It is said that currently more than 200,000 Chinese people are engaged in business in UAE.

On July 22, in beautiful Bangalore, India, Shandong Publishing Group and an Indian publishing group launched a signing ceremony on strategic cooperation. Sun Shougang, as leader, headed all members of the Cultural Communication Delegation of Shandong to attend the signing ceremony and delivered a speech.

On July 25, the delegation arrived in Malaysia. Shandong Radio and Television Station and Malaysia Tourism Promotion Bureau signed an understanding on the cooperation of “2013 Shandong-Malaysia Television Tourism Culture Year.” At the same time, the International Channel of Shandong Radio and Television Station—Taishan TV Station—started to broadcast programs in Malaysia. As a window for the mutual understanding of Shandong and Malaysia, Taishan TV Station will further promote the communication and cooperation between Shandong and Malaysia in the fields of economy, culture, and tourism.
